HIMALAYAN BLUNDER - THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE CONDEMNED TO REPEAT IT

HIMALAYAN BLUNDER by JP Dalvi
Book Review
By
VIKRAM KARVE

On 20 October 2012, it will be exactly 50 years since the Sino Indian War - India's 1962 conflict with China. Of all the books, references and literature on the 1962 India China War, I find the memoir of Brigadier JP Dalvi - HIMALAYAN BLUNDER - most engrossing.
“Are we heading for another Himalayan Blunder?”
“Is history going to repeat itself after 50 years?”
I have heard a saying: THOSE WHO DO NOT LEARN FROM HISTORY ARE CONDEMNED TO ...

Critical history to be read by all Indians

This is one of those set of books which should be mandated for every Indian to be read. A very realistic account by the only person who can claim to have been there and done that!

This book is as authentic as it could get. Brig John Dalvi has done a yeoman service to this nation with this book. Readers would feel frustrated and angry after reading this account.

But there are several minuses in this book. The style of writing is not very cohesive and rambling at times. This book assumes that...

Himalayan Blunder: Brig J P Dalvi

The book is very well written, with loads of examples of antipathy of government at that time towards strategic thinking and about defending the country.

Brig Dalvi shares his experiences, struggles and details of hitting a brickwall when it came to challenging the leadership on vital issues. One can realize the hopelessness of situation for those who were defending our borders, But you will salute who stood their firmly till the last.

Another man you'd come to respect is Shri Sardar Patel...

I could not let this book go till finish

The moment I started reading this book, I was engrossed. Its all experience written over in the each word of the book. As an Indian we have always failed to take care of our security seriously and we work on miracle words than hard work. This book gives a jolt and brings the reader back to reality. I also liked this book very much as it does not look biased for a moment.

Whomsover banned this book initially did a great dis-service to the nation. Salute to you Brigadier Dalvi for enlightening...

Unfolds the truth

This book got first hand information about the indo-china war. At times we feel emotional. As other is a Army person most of his story line will be with Army terminology at times we may not understand fully but can feel whats happening. Bad decisions/policies by Nehru and Menon are well covered because whom we lost the war and confidence, making China superior to us.

The pathetic system and the heroic soldiers

The book has the potential to move you to tears because the actual accounts of war and defeat have always been diverted by Jawahar Lal Nehru,Congress Party and civil leadership and the bravery shown by the soldiers have been kept at bay. After reading the first page of the book only you will be moved to read the book completely.I urge and request you to read this book completely ast it will bring more respect for the brave heroes in your heart and make the truth of civil leadership failure mor...

A story of brave Indian Soldiers and hallucinated foolish politicians.

Brave were the men who fought , sacrificed themselves in the prime of their youth ......thousands of patriotic men funneled into Chinese hands just because of political leadership's ineptitude and hallucinations of being harbinger of world peace.....A MUST READ FOR EVERY INDIAN......Indian Army needed almost everything required for a war except COURAGE.

Unknown facts made known to all Indians

Yes, this is a book every Indian should read. The hard core truths, the dirty politics, the incompetency of the rulers - all things related to the 1962 war is presented threadbare.
And I salute our brave Indian soldiers.
My high regards to the esteemed Sada Sashak Rakshaks of our country has become even higher after reading this book. It will make anyone feel how our soldiers live, when, even today, they are guarding the treacherous border in a place where they cannot meet their family memb...
