Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

What do the different tags like 'In Stock', 'Available' mean?

      'In Stock'

Products‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Available'

Products listed as ‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Preorder' or 'Forthcoming'

The product is not released yet. You can however ‘book’ an order for this. Shipping happens only after the product launch.

      'Out of Stock'

Currently, the item is not available for sale. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know once it is available for purchase.

      'Imported'

Sometimes, items have to be sourced by Sellers from outside India. These items are mentioned as 'Imported' on the product page and can take at least 10 days or more to be delivered to you.

      'Back In Stock Soon'

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

      'Temporarily Unavailable'

The product is currently out of stock and is not available for purchase. The product could to be in stock soon. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know when it is available for purchase.

      'Permanently Discontinued'

This product is no longer available because it is obsolete and/or its production has been discontinued.

      'Out of Print'

This product is not available because it is no longer published and has been permanently discontinued.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

    Description

History Of Medieval India is the second book in a series written to provide a comprehensive overview of the history of the Indian subcontinent.

    Summary Of The Book

History Of Medieval India covers the historical landscape of the Indian subcontinent over a period of a thousand years, between the eighth and eighteenth century AD. The book starts off with a bird’s eye view of the state of the world during the medieval period, before dwelling on the rise and fall of empires in the Indian subcontinent.

Writing about the history of India is a daunting task, but the author has attempted to carry out the task with the eye of an inquirer and the pen of a scholar. The book has been written keeping in mind readers who may have some basic knowledge of the political situation in medieval India and would like to pursue the knowledge further. The book elucidates the beginnings, growths and deaths of many a dynasty, including but not limited to the Cholas, Rajputs, Vijayanagara kings, Bahmanids and the Marathas.

History Of Medieval India’s primary merit lies in the fact that it departs from the well worn path of writing about dynastic history alone and looks at the social, political, cultural and economic developments that the period gave rise to. Some of these developments still have significance in contemporary relevance, such as the caste system which seems to have been born around this period.

The author has done a tremendous job in condensing such a large amount of subject matter in such a small space.

    Poor Print Quality.

I have a habit of underlining while reading a book.(with pencil, of course)
When I tried to rub it with an eraser....guess what...the text FADED.

May be it was printed in Medieval times.
    flipKart as usual was awesome.

The best concise volume on Medieval India

There are voluminous books on this subject, but this one covers everything, in all details, in a lucid prose, though doesn't seem to be too voluminous. The best text so far for anyone interested in the Medieval India, anyone who is a beginner.

A good book but not the best

Readable, concise, covers most of the relevant events of the periods it talks about. Fulfills the requirement of any one preparing for any exam which requires the knowledge of this period about India.

But, as a historian Satish Chandra has disappointed me on many occasion where he tries to put his own way of looking at the facts. The way he tries to explain the reason behind Prithviraj Chauhaan's defeat at second battle of Terrain, and then goes on to show the Muslim invaders in good light t...

    Good replacement for old NCERT

For people who are preparing for UPSC or other examination and are flirting with the idea of taking History as an optional, should seriously read this book book before jumping into more advanced books on Medieval India.
The language is lucid and the topics are touched quite satisfactorily. How from exam point of view, this book should only serve as a primer, and other books (Vol 1 and Vol 2) need to read, to augment understanding as well as the quality of answers.

One of the best reads on the topic!

History of Medieval India by Satish Chandra is an excellent book to read for those who're interested in knowing more about the happenings in the country during the medieval times. It is written in a systematic manner and provides an almost neutral view on the developments that happened in those times. It can read by general public who is interested in reading about our history and is one of the must buys for students preparing for examinations such as Civil Services. It not only provides all ...

    Awesome!

I started reading about Medieval Indian History from the 2 separate volumes written on Medieval History by the same author.I managed to finish the first but i found the sheer size of the second book dauting! So then i bought this book to read a shorter version of the Mughal rule.

It's a pleasure to read it.The arguments and reasoning are simply brilliant.

But If one is into academics or want a very deep understanding of Medieval History then you should go for the longer version or the double...

SAME AS 11TH NCERT OLD VERSION MEDIEVAL INDIA

This is same reprint of 11th NCERT old version book which cost only Rs.65/- but the actual thing is that this version has been stoped and not available in the market, yet the price is very huge (5 times the selling price of old NCERT book). Yet the book is very nice and very helpful. Every trying to buy this one can search for that NCERT book and if cannot find it then you can go for this book.

    Nice book

Emphasis is more on political history. Perhaps some aspects of India's culture during medieval times are missing. Still a comprehensive text for understanding medieval history. Useful for UPSC aspirants. Some may say book is biased as it tries to ignore some discriminatory and religious policies of Islamic and Mughal rulers. But I think it's good for a general reader as it invokes past in a way that doesn't hamper the unity and harmony in present times.

Rating this book specifically with CS(Prilims) in mind

Not worth the effort (in terms of time) that this book demands, especially if history is not your optional. Also this book is written by nehruvian historian, so it'll be very irritating for presenting one-sided view. Also focus on culture part is not sufficient to cover art, architecture and music of medieval period. All in all, find a better alternative or just purchase some coaching class material instead.
