Description
Historical monuments, archeological material, sightseeing and religious ancient monuments are spread in different parts of Hooghly district. which pave the way for the study of regional history. 'History of Pandua' by Hemendranath Bandyopadhyay, 'History of Pandua' by Prabhas Pal, 'Bharat Pathik Rammohan and Radhanagar' by Kalyan Brahmachari, 'Sreedham Kamarpukur' by Swami Tejasananda, 'Mahesh Mangal or Mahesh Idana' by Sri Shraddhananda Devasharma, 'History of Bandel Church' by Niharranjan Chaki, Prafulla Chakraborty's Social Profile of Tarakeswar', Manav Mandal's book 'Prasanga Tarakeswar' introduces the ancient regional history. Saptagram, located on the banks of the Saraswati River, was a prosperous port city till the 17th century. Saptagram had a special influence on the social and economic aspects of Bengal at that time. The history of ancient Saptagram has been discussed in the books 'Emergence of Saptagram' by Professor Dinesh Chandra Ghosh, 'History of Saptagram' by Nitai Ghosh, 'History of Saptagram Civilization' by Prashant Ghosh, 'History of Banshberia' by Vijay Chandra Karmkar, 'Banshberia or Banshabati' by Munindradev Roy. After the decline of the Saptagram port, the areas along the Hooghly river including the Hooghly port were colonized by foreign merchant community trade and paved the way for regional history practice. 'Brief History of Chandannagar' by Prof. Vishwanath Bandyopadhyay, 'Brief Chandannagar Identity' compiled by Harihar Seth, 'History of Bhadreshwar Region' by Shankar Bandyopadhyay, 'History of Srirampur City' by Bhairabprasad Halder, 'Three Centuries of Rishad and Contemporary Social Picture' by Krishnagopal Pakrashi, 'History of Konnagar' by Ramakrishna Sarkar ', Prabhas Pal's 'History of Konnagar', Sukumar Sahar's 'Uttarpara : Kuk Jana Kuk Akhina' books are new directions of regional history. A detailed review of various subjects is possible in the study of regional history. The fruits of such efforts are 'Hooghly District Dev-Deul' by Sudhir Kumar Mitra, 'Hooghly District: Literature and Culture' edited by Jagabandhu Kundu, Ashok Kumar Chattopadhyay's 'History of Freedom Fighters of Hooghly District', Tushar Chattopadhyay's 'Hooghly District in Freedom Struggle'. However, it is reasonable to call these books not regional history but helpful books for the study of history. It is not an easy task to give the correct identification of all the books and writers that have been published on history from different parts of the district. Although many are invisible to the discussion, their contribution is no less. At present, the periodicals and small magazines published from the cities and towns of the district are playing an important role in highlighting the regional history by publishing valuable articles. The landmark revolution in education-culture-history practice in undivided Bengal started in Hooghly district. The establishment of the first printing press, the publication of Bengali periodicals and books opened up a new horizon to the practice of regional history in front of the next generation, carrying on the trend, historians contributed invaluable resources to regional history writing. Hooghly's reputation as a famous district in the history of Bangladesh is very old. There are numerous historical monuments, archeological material, sightseeing and religious ancient monuments scattered in different parts of the district. The writer has explored the truth of history by visiting the ghats on the way to the district and mixing with the people. The author has tried to show the known facts in a new way by adding literature to history through various historical theories and document-based discussions. History has become more vivid. In this book, the introduction of the district, regional history practice, historical Saraswati river, biographies of prominent people, contribution to the freedom movement, temples, mosques and churches with antiquities, sightseeing places, literature and culture have been highlighted in this book. It is expected that the book will be appreciated by informed readers and researchers
