I have given this book 5 stars just to bring the average rating to a more realistic representation of the book's quality. The novel is witty, deliberately cheesy, self deprecatory, depressing and heart warming. To be sure, if you are a straight male you may not like it. However if you are aware of the issues facing LGBT Indians, this book is awesome.
The characters while they are admittedly "bollywood" archetypes, have a realism and truth behind them. The main character is a boy from Mumbai...
If you simply collect books with a gay theme, buy it by all means, otherwise stay away. If you are interested to know the story, read a review somewhere. The Calcutta edition of Telegraph has a review online.
