    Flipkart Official  Review

What happens when values clash? When two people who think differently are now married and there seems no way out of things? What happens when everything you ever loved and cared for is at stake? Such questions often seem to have easy answers in books and probably other art forms, but never in life, more so when you are the one living it. Sudha Murthy manages to communicate just that through her new book, “House of Cards”.

“House of Cards” is about a young couple – Mridula and Sanjay. It is about their life in Bangalore, which is idyll and how one fine day a decision of Mridula’s basis Sanjay’s actions brings everything in their relationship to a halt. Sudha Murthy writes with biting precision about everyday life, without becoming too myopic about situations and how life works out for the common man. The book is broad in the sense of ideas and at the same time does not get pedantic at any point.

Mridula and Sanjay are a married couple who have settled in Bangalore. Trouble starts to brew when Sanjay decides to quit his government job for a private practice. His work involves corrupt practices which eventually leads to their separation. Mridula has to find her own space now...or can she?

    Summary of the Book

Mridula is a young and enthusiastic woman who hails from a village in Karnataka. She meets Sanjay, an impoverished doctor, and they fall in love and decide to marry and settle in Bangalore. Mridula starts to notice the selfish and materialistic world around her. In the meanwhile, Sanjay decides to leave his current job for a private practice. The job pays him well and with more money comes the desire for even more. This leads to corrupt practices and problems between the couple. Mridula eventually decides that she needs to leave her husband and go out on her own.

    An Interesting Read

I ordered the book and Flipkart service was prompt. Thank you Mrs Murty. The wait for your latest novel was worth it.
I liked all the three novels written by you in particular Maheshweta. I liked the plot and story in House of Cards.
I hope someday there will be a sequel as well.
I particularly liked what Mridula's father tells her about sharing and being open.
A must read for all of us who love the books penned by Mrs Sudha Murty.

    life as we see it..

Sudha murthy has created magic in this book. i am a fan of sudha murthy's work. and love the way she portrays life in a very simple manner. the characters are little dreamy, yet we can easily connected. Mridula a naive girl who leads a life in a very simple manner..Sanjay a hardworking person who believes handwork's the only way to success.a typical Indian couple who live a simple life in this materialistic world but as we in a society where money does buy happiness at least to some extent.. ...

    Impressive as always

Sudha Murty is one of those very few people who are very inspirational to me. I enjoy her real life anecdotes much more than her fictional stories, but with very simple english she continues to get across her point to us. Her stories come with immense values behind them.

One of my very favourites in the book being, "At twenty if you're not an idealist, then you don't have a heart. And if you continue to be an at forty, then you don't have a brain".

    Reality of Life

Recenty I have started reading Ms. Sudha Murthy's book. I have started with Mahaswetha. Then "The day I stopped drinking Milk, The Mother I never knew and now House of Cards. The language is very simple. Easy to follow. Day to day life happenings. Father-daugther, Father-son, Hushand-wife, Mother-son, Wife-Sister-in-law, with friends and relatives. really a variety of relationships (bunch of cards). Each character remains in mind. Once I started reading, I never feel like putting down. Ver...

    Splendid with simplicity!!

Truly it's a worth read for those who love simple happy ending stories. Elements of drama are negligible throughout the book. We can find real life incidents and characters in entire reading. I think it as the highlight of 'House of cards'. But those who expect extra ordinary twists in a novel wont get satisfied with this.

The complete story revolves around the life of Mridula, a school teacher and her husband Dr.Sanjay .Initially they drove a smooth family life. Later greed for money and hi...

Depicts the struggle of a woman to restore her identity

House of cards by Sudha Murti is a review of the changing role of woman in the society and at home. She brings up the issue of changing moral values in Indian system in the present context. I appreciate the simplicity with which she conveys the message that position of woman at home has changed and has to be accepted by spouse as well as children. A good read.
