    Description

The House Of Silk: The New Sherlock Holmes Novel takes its readers through the adventures of the celebrated fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes. This time, a whispered phrase sends him on the trail of what could be the most dangerous conspiracy yet.

    Summary Of The Book

The House Of Silk: The New Sherlock Holmes Novel is the latest novel about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes, the fictional character immortalised by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was written by Anthony Horowitz after being approved by the Conan Doyle estate. In this book, a mysteriously whispered phrase sends Holmes and his friend Watson in pursuit of a shocking conspiracy, one that signals an enormous threat to society itself.

Detective Sherlock Holmes is based at 221B Baker Street in London. He solves difficult cases using his astute reasoning powers and forensic science skills. His talent for adopting any disguise effortlessly also comes in handy during his endeavors. He is assisted by his friend and biographer, Dr. Watson. The character of Sherlock Holmes is partially based on Joseph Bell, Arthur Conan Doyle’s former university teacher.

The book begins during the November of 1890. The weather is ruthlessly cold, and Holmes and Watson are sitting by the fire and drinking tea. They are interrupted by the arrival of an unexpected visitor. As it turns out, the visitor is one Edmund Carstairs, an art dealer who is being stalked by a dangerous man. Carstairs appeals to Holmes for help.

Holmes and Watson set out on a mission to help Carstairs. They begin to encounter one sinister event after another, including a brutal murder. As they continue to pursue the case, they come across a seemingly random phrase ‘The House of Silk’. The mysterious phrase takes the case in a new direction. At one point, Holmes even ends up in prison.

As the mystery begins to unravel, Holmes and Watson discover that the case goes much deeper than they once thought. With the dangerous secrets about to be revealed, society could be shaken to its very foundations. The conspirators hold the upper hand, but Holmes might just have a trick or two up his sleeve.

The House Of Silk: The New Sherlock Homes Novel was published in 2011. It received mainly positive reviews. Horowitz was appreciated for retaining the true spirit of the original Sherlock Holmes books while adding a modern touch to appeal to the current readership.

Quite an enjoyable read for any Sherlock Holmes fan

It will be inappropriate to compare this author to the genius of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle but this is definitely an enjoyable read for any Sherlock Holmes fan. The plot is good, fast paced. The suspense builds as chapters elapse ending with a totally unexpected twist. Sherlock Holmes has been portrayed as less egoistic, a little bit emotional and vulnerable. The research done by the author to recreate the Victorian era is admirable.

    For the fans....but only just.

It's perhaps a tribute to the quality of the original characters that the stories of this detective and his slightly bumbling companion are still popular. So popular that every year there seems to be either a new book or a movie or a BBC t.v series out, with varying degrees of success.I consider myself a fan but even to me the original short stories and novels (with a few exceptions) seem dated. More than the stories, it's only nostalgia and a certain Victorian atmosphere that the Holmes novel...

The House of Silk: The New Sherlock Holmes Novel

As an ardent Sherlock Holmes fan (I have read and re-read the entire collection countless times), I would recommend this book strongly. If I was looking for Arthur Conan Doyle, I was not disappointed.. The atmosphere is suitably menacing, the plot tight, and the writing exquisite. The end however, was slightly disappointing... The book is unputdownable and I finished it in 3 days... will go back and read it more slowly this time and savour it!

    Uncannily reminiscent

Sherlock Holmes fans of the world, rejoice! In "The House of Silk," Holmes is back in all his glory--the world's most famous fictional detective with an almost superhuman power of deduction.

Horowitz evokes a picture of Victorian London with precision and with a miniaturist's eye for detail, uncannily reminiscent of Conan Doyle's writing. The story follows Holmes and Watson through London and its outskirts on the trail of a crime that is unlike any other. The words "House of Silk" run as a ...

A Must for any Holmes Fan

Having read many other attempts by various author to follow in the steps of the late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I can proudly say this one is the best Holmes novel not written by the knighted author himself. Any Holmes fan would himself in familiar space with this book. Don't be reluctant to try it or you will miss a fantastic adventure of Holmes!

    A good one

Although the story telling or the plot cannot match the ingenuity of Arthur Conan Doyle, the attempt really deserves an appreciation. The story is good and quite interesting. Lots of plots/stories woven together into one to keep one interested throughout.

    Loved it..

when i finished all of the Conan Doyle works, i was both ecstatic and distraught... although i thoroughly enjoyed everything, there was this nagging feeling that i am never gonna read any new 'awesome' Sherlock Holmes deduction!
    and then came Anthony Horowitz!!
It seems like it Doyle all over again... The same old baker street mania. must for die-hard Sherlock fans.

And the fact that for past 1 year i'm only buying books from flipkart says all about their great collection, credibility and e...
