I read Kiran Desai’s 'Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard' after reading 'The Inheritance of Loss', moving down the author’s evolutionary ladder, so to speak. The exercise proved instructive. A very good debut novel by author.

The narration is good. The characters have been well-written. The story simple, yet entertaining is okay, but has been stretched about a lot. There were some good moments in the book, but it got boring at times. The end, unfortunately was disappointing. I thought the protagonist, Sampath, was really funny at the start, but got dull later. All in all, it's a one time read.
