Human Resource Champions: The Next Agenda for Adding Value and Delivering Results is a reference book dealing with strategies on how to enhance the capabilities of HR people.

    Summary Of The Book

Dave Ulrich presents a comprehensive book on the roles of professionals working in the human resource department of leading organizations. The author emphasizes in this book that the present times demand a drastic change in the qualities of HR professionals. He highlights that their roles need to be redefined so that they can better face the competitive challenges and step more appropriately into future.

Human Resource Champions: The Next Agenda for Adding Value and Delivering Results Ulrich offers a framework defining four specific roles that a HR professional needs to master as part of his tenure. These roles are of an Administrative Expert, a Strategic Player, an Employee Champion, and a Change Agent. He argues that the HR department of any organization holds the key to its profits and a conducive future, which is why these professionals need to operate in all these four areas all together to contribute completely and enhance their roles.

Ulrich not just defines the different roles of HR professionals but also guides them on how to do that. He offers hands-on tools that can be used by HR professionals to work in all of these four areas hand-in-hand. Moreover, he also provides precise suggestions to partner with line managers so as to deliver value thereby making one’s company more competitive.

Numerous illustrations and examples are included in this book to prove his point. These examples are taken from real-life organizations that motivate the reader to learn how they can operate completely all the four areas simultaneously.

Ulrich offers this book as a catalyst to bring the desired and much needed change in the way HR departments work. He aims to change the mentality of these professions from “what I do” to “what I deliver” that could bring visible profits for the organization. Human Resource Champions creates an interesting challenge for these professionals – either they define the importance of what they create or be ready to face the inevitable step of outsourcing their work.

Ulrich’s Human Resource Champions: The Next Agenda for Adding Value and Delivering Results won the Society for Human Resource Management Book Award in 1997.
