R.Thyagarajan is Founder Chairman of the Shriram Group. He started his career in General Insurance with New Indian Assurance as a Trainee Officer. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics and Master’s degree in Mathematical Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata. He is also an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London. A fifteen-year stint with New India Assurance Co. and a subsequent 10-year stint with J.B. Boda & Co. Pvt. Ltd., the largest Reinsurance and Insurance Brokers in Asia, had given him the opportunity of acquiring a grasp of the whole range of General Insurance business. While in J.B. Boda & Co., he had conducted seminars and training courses on Fire Insurance Underwriting and Consequential Loss insurance for insurance companies in Malaysia and Hong Kong. He was a guest faculty for the Asian Institute of Insurance, Philippines & Insurance Institutes in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The President of India has awarded the prestigious ‘Padma Bhushan’ to Mr.Thyagarajan in the year 2013.
