I: Putting the Eye in IAS traces the arduous roller-coaster journey of Rakesh Sinha, a young visually-challenged boy from a middle-class family, as he grows up and tries to get what he wants. Rakesh’s eyesight, or the lack of it, becomes a thorough impediment for him to realise his ultimate dream. To serve one’s country, one needs vision, not eyesight. This novel, seen from the perspective of this young lad, recounts his determination for carving a niche for himself. In the process, it succeeds in opening windows of hope for thousands of others.
