    Description

Imagining India offers a visionary outlook about India and its burgeoning future through the eyes of its author Nandan Nilekani, who is an accomplished business leader. An original and balanced perspective on India’s past, present, and future is presented in an engaging manner. The central ideas that have shaped India’s growth are reviewed strongly in Imagining India. India’s earlier socialist policies, which stunted its growth, is looked at critically. The book traces the policies and efforts of the past and present leaders, wherein they tried to develop new frameworks to suit India’s challenges. The author lays emphasis on the role played by the youth of the country in its development. Further, he throws light on the impact of information technology on business and governance. Other topics covered include labour reform, caste politics, urbanisation, infrastructure, higher education, English language, and globalisation. He charts ideas that are pivotal to India’s future growth, and stresses that new ideas for social security, environment, public health, etc. are required to secure India’s future.

Nandan Nilekani is currently the Chairperson of the Unique Identification Authority of India. He has written forewords for books like The Beautiful Tree, India's New Capitalists: Caste, Business, and Industry in a Modern Nation and contributed to Romancing the Decade. As an entrepreneur, he was one of the co-founders of Infosys. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2006, and named as the Forbes Businessman of the Year in 2007. His wife is Rohini, and they have two children.

Brilliant book for Essay section of the Civil Services Exam

The book Imagining India is a very well structured and very well researched book. The book is unique blend of perspectives of various scholars from myriad fields and the authors vision to look at India in a changed face in the 21st century. The book aptly describes the way in which an Engineer's mind really functions.

The author puts in a neo liberal perspective but at the same time very well justifies the perspectives that he believes in. The book may not be very convincing to a lot of rea...

    very biased and negative

i have bought this book and i find it very biased and it clearly visible, his support to congress and its leader. he has described every wrong doing of the congress with word government and all the right steps with individual names like Rajiv Gandhi or Nehru.

This book does not provide the solutions of the problems, which he has described in very haphazard way.
Though some facts are good but overall the flow of the topic is not there beacuse of which user find himself hard to make any image of...

    Not good

Mr. Nilekani's views as expressed in book relating to business ideas are very refined and that is very interesting to read also.
But when one reads the social and political views they are biased, ambiguous and haphazard.
Thus, not a very interesting book

    An Engaging read

It is a real surprise from a personality like Nandan Nilekani to write such an insightful book on India's present which is the amalgamations of its past stands and past people's ideas. He gives a brief description on the society right from its colonial era to the modern IT era. He analyses each and every bit and it is not a breeze when reading our country's past. He gets deep into how businesses were looked at in the past and how they have transformed themselves in the present and what kind o...
