A good critique

I wanted to rate it 4.5 star, but I am rating it 4, because 5 is reserved for beyond extraordinary books.

I had personal interaction with the author when he came to my university last year. I read many reviews before ordering to the book, which was delivered by Flipkart within 2 days. It is a very well written critique of Indian Economic policy prior to 1991 and major faults even after. It engages you with its many stories of success and red-tapism and many with its positive outlook. It may...

Follies of the past and hopes for the future

In the book Gurcharan Das, former head of P & G and an avid political and economic commentator outlines wonderfully India's economic and political history. It starts with the battle of plassey where British defeated Siraj ud Daulah, the bengal empror then. From there he takes us on a journey right till the IT revolution in India of the late 90's. The book is really enlightening and if one reads it carefully, they will find wonderful insights for the future; about how we can pull our socks up ...

Good choice

Bought it for my GD preparation for B-School entrance. Book content is wonderful as expected but the page quality is just bad! I mean, it's not even average, just bad. It doesn't suite such amazing content!

I hope the author will increase the quality at least to average level in next edition.

Not perfect history but a strong voice of liberal economic policy. Nice read ! But read it with Ramchandra Guha's India after Gandhi for full effect !!

Not a perfect book by any means, in particular the rail against Socialist policies of Nehru and the single pointed demonizing of the Indian bureaucracy seem a little simplistic and one-sided. Although the author rejected the whole concept of 'Mixed' economy of India after independence as idealistic and wish-fulfilling, his whole-hearted endorsement of economic reforms as the panacea for all perils seems much the same. Also one has to keep in mind that Nehru and his economic policies were as m...

Excellent

India Unbound is a balanced, yet an eye opening account of India in the post independence era. The events that shaped our modern history and have led us to be the people we are, are captured with crisp clarity and logical flow. I also implore Sri. Gurcharan Das to update this insightful book with the 2 recent milestones of our country, the passing of the GST Bill and Demonetization and the events surrounding these legislations. A must read for every aware citizen of India whose awareness will...

Compelling Read

Coming from a writer who has lived through the India of 60s/70s & 80s in the corporate side, this book my Gurcharan Das is an excellent reflection of the reasons macro and micro for the India we live in. Das merges the economic consequences of our social setup and beliefs effortlessly to explain to us how they have rubbed on the current economic and business practices. The book seems to be a neutral account of our past leaders, especially Pt.Jawaharlal Nehru, as the author has refrained from ...

Facinating story of India

1. 'India Unbound' by Gurucharan Das is one of the best book for the preparation of Civil service Exams. I have read it for the same purpose.

2. From the colonial rule over India, India was in the world economic race. still in the 30s and 40s of last century we were in the ranking of the fastest growing economies. Author explains that freedom and the left of the center or socialist economic policies came as a disaster to India. foreign tread under British rule was good than in the independen...
