I first read this book 3 years ago on the recommendation of a friend. One of the best books I have ever read, and definitely the best nonfiction book on India. Das's writing style is fluid, engaging. This book provides a reasonable argument to questions in our minds as to why our country is still a developing economy.

It's interesting to read how India could leap to progress as the author throws light on the 1991 economic reforms,also quite shocked to know how the East India Company funded it's trade deficit by investing from India's trade surplus then!.

I have read Indian Unbound once and now reading it again, its interesting and spellbound. My all time favourite. It is one of the finest books written on Indian politics and the struggle of Indian economy during the Licence Raaj and before.Mr. Das provides the first hand experience of the political and economic scenario pre and post independence, straight forward and in humor.
