This is the first comprehensive account of the Indian National Army(I.N.A) written by a historian. The value of the book is enhanced by the fact that the author has been able to make use of a number of Japanese documents and the papers of the Indian Independence League bearing upon the different aspects of the subject. So far as I know no Indian before him has used such such records to write the history of I.N.A. The historical value of this records can be hardly over-estimated. The author has dealt in considerable details the origin of I.N.A, its early difficulties and internal dissensions, successful organization by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, its various campaigns and their reaction on Indian Politics. In the view of the great and important role played by I.N.A, this book must be regarded as a valuable addition to the literature on the struggle for Indian Freedom. - R.C Majumdar – First edition review 1969
