(Updated) Buy the i7 2700K / i7 2600 instead of this

I used to think this was one of the best processors around...but not any more. I still think its a very good processor, but "not value for money". Why? Explanation below.
Since I got some criticism for my previous review, I'm doing a detailed update.
Since this will get big. I will divide it into 4 parts. If you're short on time, dive into the one you are more interested.

1. For the overclocker
2. For the non over clocker
3. Bulldozer vs Sandy Bridge
4. Advantage over i5 2500K

For the overc...

Phenomenal

Wowzers. I bought this and overclocked it to 4.7 ghz using Corsair's H70 liquid cooled heatsink. An absolute beast! My PC is just screaming right now! If you've got the money then this is the best processor you can get right now.

Best Sandy Bridge Proceesor but Costly

@BIJU ABRAHAM
This is i7 2600"K" not i7 2600.Its better to buy 2600k than 2700k just a 100Mhz higher than 2600K.So you can buy this processor and overclock to compete 2700K.By doing this you can save some bucks!

This Sandy Bridge processor seems to perform well in all means especially when you do multitasking but its costly as every one knows Intel = Costly. If you can afford that much then go for Intel. If Budget is tight/low go for AMD.The new AMD's FX processor gets poor reviews an benchmar...

dont try to compare amd with intel !!!!!!!!!

if you want to know why is intell so famous than listen intel is famous for its:1.smart cache
2.advertisement which attract more people
3.more price which make people think that intel is good as it is
costlier
4.bcause intel is an old company and amd is a new one.
5.intel has its hd graphics which amd doent have

Is it worth it

There is no doubt that this is a very fast and good CPU but what is the different between I5 2500k and I7 2600k,there gaming performance is similar as well as in general computing and overclocking.Only performance increase u will get will be in heavily multi-threaded applications or for those who are doing some heavy video conversions and editing.
As far as games goes there are very few games which uses multi threading technology. So if u just want CPU for gaming I5 2500k is more than equippe...

Eye of the Tiger

I speak to all the lay people who once had are now is dreaming of a super performing desktop. Do not get dragged into the controversies of 'which is better than which and why'. There is just no end to it. IF you have settled for i7 2nd generation look no further. This is it for you. If you get troubled by 'whether i should spend a couple of grands more 100MHz more?' then you would end up wasting more time than your ultimate gain. Remember, YOU will use it and no one will come tell you, 'shoul...

Intel is far superior than an AMD anyway

I was building a computer for my home studio specifically for heavy Photoshop usage. While I did my experiments with both AMD and Intel with basic photoshop workflow, Intel Core i7 rocked the bench. Simple conversion of a Raw file to Jpg was 2seconds faster. And imagine this processor coupled with a raid and ssd setup, the computer is screaming for more. 2600k is unlocked and has Intel 3000 graphics card with a 850mhz gpu. Super cool.

better to use other processor

in my opinion its better to use AMD processor. They are lot more cheaper than intel processor. this processor clock maximum 3.8 GHz and if you see AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-8150, it clock maximum of 4.2 GHz. and it is cheaper by 3000 Rs. I have never seen any processor cloacking over 4 Ghz

I will prefer you to buy AMD processor for your desktops.
