Inverting the Pyramid is a pioneering book on soccer by British sports journalist and author, Jonathan Wilson.

    Summary of the Book

Inverting the Pyramid chronicles the evolution of soccer tactics and the lives of some of the legendary coaches, who have greatly influenced the sport with their own unique and distinctive styles. The book provides a detailed account of how the South American players modified the game by adding their own finesse to the game and the way the Europeans combined individual techniques to turn it into a team game. Inverting the Pyramid provides a complete understanding of the tactical genius of Barcelona, by showing how they developed their style of play from Total Football, which was a modification of the Scottish passing game invented by Queens Park in the 1870s. Intriguing, riveting and very informative, Inverting the Pyramid is the ultimate soccer tactics books and is an essential read for any coach, player and fan of the beautiful game of soccer.

    Delicious stuff

There's a reason why Jonathan Wilson is renowned in the world of football writing and this work of genius reflects that in its entirety. Taking the reader through the ages with regard to football tactics isn't the easiest thing to do but Wilson's sheer genius lies in being able to make it all comprehensible to anyone who understands the sport.

If you're a mere dabbler, you should avoid this because it makes no sense for you to pick it up. For those of you who do possess more than a fleeting...

    THE definitive football book

Jonathan Wilson polarizes opinion. There are those that believe that Wilson is so obsessed with the tactical, and indeed scientific, aspect of football that he often misses out on its romance of the beautiful game. Another criticism is that this book has given rise to a new generation of armchair "critics", tossing around terms like "Regista" and "Trequartista" with a smugness that makes you want to punch them in the face.

However, what cannot be denied is that this is perhaps the finest tr...

Brilliant, Readable AND Scholarly - Masterful Writing!

If football tactics have seemed confusing and overthought - if you think that your average pundit is saying the most unreasonable stuff, if you feel that moving pins around a green board isn't of any point - read this book. Part history, Part story, Jonathan Wilson takes you on a sensational journey through time and ages. Football intertwines with culture, society and history in this book as you see why teams play the way they do - Why are England so rigid? What's good about the Germans? Why ...

A Book for every Football Fanatic

I got the book for something over Rs.500. And being a mad about football tactics, Jonathan Wilson's writing didn't disappoint me at all.

Informative and Very very interesting. The details of the pre 1900 era gave an idea about how the rules bought in the game

As far as delivery of the book is concerned, it as on time- 5/5 for that.

An overall 5/5. Do give it a read.
