Description

Deepak Chopra and Leonard Mlodinow’s Is God An Illusion is a spiritual treatise on the debate between Science and Spirituality.

Summary of the Book

In this book, two leading philosophers and writers come head to head to write about the age old debate of theists and atheists. Deepak Chopra presents the spiritual end of this debate. He explains that intelligent design definitely exists, and that there is a mystic entity behind all life. However, he chooses to not defend organized religion, instead focussing on how consciousness drives matter and all of creation. He explains that it is difficult to displace intelligent design and ignore the facts that are in plain sight. In contrast, Leonard Mlodinow speaks about science’s viewpoint, and how modern quantum physics explains the world. He presents the theories of physics, genetics and cosmology which, in his opinion, explain far more about the universe than ancient spiritualism. This book presents both these conflicting views and encourages readers to think for themselves about the existence of God and the validity of scientific evidence.

The eternal debate.

Mr. Mlodinov's arguments are cogent and informative, those of Mr. Chopra are meandering and repetitive. Mr. Chopra sidesteps the basic issue. Science's primary objection to the idea that universe is conscious is not to the idea per se but to the methodology of arriving at that conclusion. His model/hypothesis should be capable of making testable predictions, which it fails to do. In the absence of it, his ideas are at best philosophical speculations. Thoroughly enjoyed the book.
