Good book

Unlike expensive coffee table books, this behind-the-scenes look at a cult classic of Hindi cinema is very affordable and accessible. Jai Arjun Singh has put in a lot of passion and research to bring us nuggets behind the humor and satire of JBDY. A film that ranks on everyone's fav lists, this book will make you wish someone did a series on Andaz Apna Apna, Sholay, Angoor, Khosla ka Ghosla, Munnabhai and other such unexpected jewels.

Must read for every JBDY fan!!

Un-put-downable!

Since a lot of the edited footage of JBDY was lost due in archives, this book provides a good "behind the scenes" look at the film that still features on everyone's "top movies" list!

There is a lot of trivia about the movie and a lot of background on what went into its making. The writing makes the reader relive and go through the creative process that led to the making of this classic! I almost felt like I was present as events prior to the film unfolded!

Caution: You'd lose track of time while reading this!!

Okay, when I picked this one up, it was primarily because I am a big fan of "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro". I think it is the sincerest film made in the history of Indian cinema. This book does thorough justice to it. From it's inception to the writing of the script to casting the actors to the madness on shoot; the book touches upon everything any hardcore JBDY fan would love to read about. You'd feel as if the whole process of the making of the film is taking place in front of your eyes! Plus, the pe...

Brilliant

A great insight into the making of a "crazy" film. It's a great look into how not only has the film industry changed over the years, but also into the characters and actors that made this one of the most memorable films of Indian Cinema.

Not just another "making of" book

This book surprised me by going beyond the obvious tales one may expect during the making of any film - which, by themselves, are bizarre enough to make for a good read. It tries to place / analyse the film, its making and the makers in the context of the general state of affairs around that time. The small extra insights - the comparison with Inquilab & an attempt to explain the different thought processes of Raj Kapoor and Kundan Shah and many others of the kind - that takes this above any ...

A Great Read for Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro followers

I have been love with this film since I first set eyes on it and reading about one of the greatest black comedies of Indian cinema was a sheer pleasure. Insights from director Kundan Shah and various cast & crew members associated with the film, for sure added to my knowledge and my love for this film.
The details compiled by Jai Arjun Singh, especially in the style presented, made it a very interesting read. Instead of throwing in random facts & know hows, Jai Arjun Singh divided the book in...

Seriously readable :-)

My search for academic writings on Hindi films have started to bear some fruit over the recent past.

A well-researched behind the scenes look is offered by Jai Arjun Singh's book "Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (ान भ द यार) - seriously funny since 1983".

In the author's own words, "It's very difficult to describe this film to someone who hasn't experienced it first hand", so I am just going to assume that you've watched the film. If you haven't then drop everything and ...

Nice read

For a nation obsessed with movies, itâ??s a little surprising that there are very few good books available on Bollywood or Hindi movies. Probably we are just happy watching the movies than reading about them. Not surprisingly Jai Arjun Singhâ??s book is a welcome and well deserved addition to this genre.
The book starts with with Kundan Shah early days in FTI- Pune, his initial struggle to bring this movie to the production stage and moves on by providing an easy flowing and light hearted acc...

good but coudl have been better

the book is good but could have been better, by providing more info about the actual shooting ; like how was the team to kundan as he was new comer, how the dia were written etc. adding making images could have made the book more interesting.

film making book needs interesting images. usual poster images does not help.

but yet the book is very good insight as to how the director floated with his vision with all the hiccups.

good !
