Jacquard traditional Gutta Resist is made from natural Gutta-percha (tree sap), which produces the finest resist available. Gutta Resist becomes permanent with air-drying and is intended to remain permanently on the fabric. Gutta is NOT water-based and can only be thinned and cleaned up with Gutta Resist Solvent. Any resist should be completely dry before applying dye. Gutta is removed from fabric by dry-cleaning. Coloured guttas are intended to remain on the fabric and should not be dry-cleaned. Resists are used in Serti-style silk painting to create barriers for liquid colour such as Silk Colours or Dye-Na-Flow as the colour spreads on the fabric. “Serti” means to encircle or enclose, and this technique allows silk painters to easily achieve “stained glass window” effects. Typically, the resist is applied with a fine line applicator, brush, or screen. Apply gutta resist with plastic squeeze bottle and tip or from a pipette. Always decent unused gutta back into original bottle. If necessary, thin with jacquard gutta solvent to obtain desired consistency for the weight and weave of the fabric.
