An endearing tale of a big-city Punjabi girl and her small town Brahmin husband caught in life’s most delightful idiocracy.

    Summary Of The Book

Just Married, Please Excuse is the story is of young Yashodhara, a hot-tempered Delhi girl and Vijay, a simple guy who belongs to a rather old fashioned Jaipur based family. After a brief courtship, they decide to get married and face all those untold, behind the scene situations that almost every newly married couple encounter.

The author hilariously narrates the tales of this young couple who have to deal with each other’s absurd temperaments while trying to please their in-laws and settling into their new life. From wedding ceremonies to a cooking fiasco, from moving to a city to wearing a saree, the author takes us through the couple’s predicaments with innate humor and refreshing frankness. All through the book, we see Yashodhara’s obscure temper tantrums and Vijay’s unfortunate yet hilarious foot-in-mouth situations. The book has some more interesting characters like Vinod and Zarreena, their domestic help, and Vivi, one of their friends.

Just as the couple begins to settle into their new life, life throws another curve ball at them, forcing them to start right from scratch. Unexpected pregnancy throws their life awry, forcing them to come to terms with this serendipity. The arrival of Anoushka (fondly called peanut), their little daughter, brings up a whole new set of differences. The couple soon realize that they have contrasting opinions on bringing up their daughter, making this a story of self-discovery and adjustments.

Just Married, Please Excuse doesn’t have any uncomfortable situations and is ideal for the Indian market. The author’s refreshing and honest take on relationships and parenting will have you in splits. The concept of new-age parenting is tactfully explored in this book.

Just Read...kindly excuse my wanting more!

I really loved the book. It was eloquently written and in way that it was difficult to put down. Had me in giggles in many parts especially the part about K and vijay:)
I could relate to the story as if it was my own story, the part about being myself, settling into a new family and the research on pregnancy and child rearing! The characters were brought out very well that it was almost as if you knew Y and V for a long time now.
The language used looked so simple at first but then I realis...

    Seriously Funny !

I barely get the time to read nowadays. But I'm happy I picked up Just Married, Please Excuse.
I think every husband needs to read this book. Anecdotal references that seem straight out of a slice of life on marriage, relationships ...issues that make you realise that the complicated problems have the most natural explanations and the simplest of solutions. It makes you look back on your experiences with pleasant nostalgia.
Its a light, breezy read and the beauty of the writing is that it de...

    A humorous take on marriage

I chose this book because of its catchy title and several suggestions on twitter. I'm glad I did, since it was such a breezy read.If you're a woman and you're married I recommend it; you will find resonances of your own relationship. If you're not married; definitely read it to know what you're headed for:) The love, the bickering and the battles of the melodramatic Y and the incorrigible V keep you glued till the very end. The best part about the book is the honesty and self deprecatory humou...

    Something Different!

“Just Married, Please Excuse” is a light read by Yashodhara Lal, and gives you reasons enough to try it at least once. Picking the book, I felt that it would be just another one of those urban tales, however, to my surprise I was wrong.

The book revolves around the arranged marriage between the typical Delhite girl and an old fashioned guy. It’s a story about a proud Punjabi girl getting married in a non-Punjabi family, and is settled in Bangalore, then in Mumbai. Other than the husband-wife...

Indian authors have come of age ...

I ordered Just Married , Excuse Please after reading about it in the Brunch and I was pleasantly surprised by the book. The book was highly entertaining and the anecdotes were hilarious. I found all the characters true to life and very easy to identify with. There was not a single portion of the book that was pretentious and for effect and I'm sure all women in their 30's would be able to identify with the author. Another thing I really liked about the book was there were no forced sex scen...

    The Kids Are All Right

    ..and the parents too.

    But before that two confessions.

Though I firmly believe that books make for the best present, I usually gift people a book voucher rather than gifting them a book per se..this as I believe "imposing" my taste in books or what the NYT BestSeller is telling us a particular week, equals a well-meaning aunt steering you towards the trial room "Oh but sweetheart this colour looks so GREAT on you". So, there are very few books that allow me to rethink my cardinal rule "THO...

    chota packet bada dhamaka

    absolutely loved the book!!

had been following Y on her blog and was really impressed by her writing style and brilliant choice of words to describe otherwise simple n common things. the hallmark of her writing style is clearly evident in her book as well.

didn't feel as if i was reading a book, could visualize the things so vividly as if i was a witness to all the events (some of them nearly earth-shattering #bhookamp)

for me the one take away from the book was the quote by mummyji -ladne...
