This book takes you to a time journey from the time Before Christ to the beginning of 21st century. Well detailed with the sequence of activities rightly placed. Have read three books by M.J. Akbar and believe me he has the knack for narrating historical events. Liked it! but was able to easily make out a special affinity for Nehru, defending some of his decisions and there is a major character Sardar Patel missing from some events.

The current generation do not know a lot of details about the history of India and its freedom struggle... reading this book gave me a completely different view of the events towards independence and a few important personalities like Nehru, Patel, Jinnah etc..... Yes the author justified the book with far and wide information on Kashmir. Going through the book one may really feel pity on this beautiful vale. One may really wonder the price of beauty so cruel! For me it made me to think my Kashmir....an orphan.

The book is great. Only reason I rated it 4 stars is because the book hasn't been updated to it's latest version which has a red cover.
