He teams up with the man, the brave Alan Breck, who shows him the ropes of a life of adventure and thrills. About R. L. Stevenson R. L. Stevenson was a Scottish novelist, poet, travel writer and essayist. Some of his other famous novels are The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Treasure Island. This novel is based on the true 18th century Scottish events. Alan Breck Stewart was a real character who was involved in the Appin murder, during the aftermath of the Jacobite Rising. Media Note This book has been adapted into several films, including a 1960 Walt Disney Productions film starring Peter Finch and James MacArthur.
