Cheated by Kingston

Guys, many of you are probably already aware of the fiasco behind this drive but I came to know a little too late.

I purchased this drive after reading all the glowing reviews on the Internet. Turns out that Kingston did a classic bait 'n switch on this. The initial models they sent out to reviewers were based on Toshiba 19mm Synchronous Nand and those models could deliver Read/Write speeds as high as 450-500 MB/s. The firmware was 5.05.

Later they changed the nand to Micron 20mm Asynchron...

Warranty rip off

Why kingston would subject only Indian customers of their SSDs to woefully inadequate warranty periods is beyond me. A quick online check reveals this SSD is supported for three years in other markets. This is the industry standard and some players have enough faith in their products to back them for FIVE.

Then we have Kingston, which probably thinks its SSDs will fail after 15 months. Clever.
Warranty is overlooked until sorely missed. Like when you have your dead parents' only photos on a...

Warranty is deal breaker

Think about it. It's kingston. Not the first name in reliability. Do you really want to buy a kingston with just one year warranty?
Instead of this, I would recommend an ADATA, the 128GB as on 12/4/14 stands to be 8 GB more and 2 years more warranty at just 500 bucks extra (@5900)

Works NOT fine

(Re-edited)
! month has not even completed and its showing Read Error !!! Crap! Totally fell for the bait and switch of Kingston on Indian Market,
In Windows using HD Sentinel shows its OK,
But on closer inspection using a linux distro found every second the read error increases and might fail in 3 months or something,
Honestly nothing to do except sit and watch, holding a new 120gb Samsung Evo OR Transcend in hand :(
Should have given negative stars since to big companies money grow on tr...

A SSD for such a low price?!?!

Don't be fooled by the low price of this drive. This used to be a real good drive at this price but later Kingston cheaped out and moved their production to China.
This also has very slow write speeds.
Kingston says that this is because of a Drive Life Protection Software (DLP), which renders the drive useless for many hours. :/
I recommend you stay away from this drive and sped some more money and get a Samsung evo or Kingston's HyperX SSDs.

best upgrade a desktop can have!!!

Instead of upgrading your slow C2D or i3 1st gen. processor or slower 633 Ghz RAM , I strongly recommend upgrading the computer by adding 120/128 GB SSD as primary drive and make the older 350-500 G as secondary drive for other personal stuff, movies and games. I have Windows 8 and many heavy software like Visual Studio, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Office 2013 etc. And it usually took 2-3 mins when I switched from one heavy software to another like switching from Photoshop after doing 1 hr. of wo...

Decent

I have this SSD & its decent based on Sandforce SF-2281 controller..

I'm limited by SATA 2 speed on my laptop so I'm yet to unleash the max performance but AS-SSD gives 510 overall score with 240 MB/s seq. read & 156/MB/s seq. write

This will easily be 350 MB/s + on SATA 3..

Also these things will have a better lifespan coz it uses industries smallest available NAND to consumers.. Toshiba 19nm Toggle mode.

Satisfied with the purchase it doesn't come with any backup software or a 3.5" ada...

Good hard drive

I have been using this HDD for over a month now and have noticed significant improvement on my windows 8 machine. My machine boots up pretty fast and is up and running in few seconds. I got about 111 GB of usable space which is more than enough for an OS partition.

Definitely a buy.

Still a buy Two years on and the hard drive is still going strong:)
