Kuki Women is a book of thirteen essays that are written by thirteen different authors. The book tells us about the Kuki Women and the gender issues that they face in their society.
Summary of the Book
Kuki is a term given to people who have migrated to India from Burma. Each story in this book is about gender issues in the Kuki society and the problems and prejudices that these women face. The essays are about the portrayal of women in folktales and myths, the women's organization and their protests, customary laws of the Vaiphei and Thadou women, and the health, quality of life and health-care facilities provided to them. It is a small tribute to the women of the Kuki society who have quietly faced the difficulties which are a result of their society’s rules and regulations. There are stories about a little girl giving up her education so her brother could be educated, a mother who has put an end to her dreams and is instead suffering to look after her family, and a wife who has dedicated her life to being shadowed by her husband’s success.
