Lady Susan is an epistolary novel by Jane Austen, written in the form of a series of letters. Lady Susan, who is beautiful, flirtatious and charming is a recent widow on the lookout for a profitable second marriage. She also tries to persuade her daughter to marry into a wealthy family, despite the unfit match. But trouble ensues when Lady Susan charms an eligible bachelor who falls in love with her, and her daughter runs away after her mother plans to marry her to a wealthy guy she dislikes. Lady Susan features a provocative and coquettish lead, unlike Austen’s trademark female protagonists, whose actions may leave one wide-eyed and agape.

Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist famous for her realistic take on landed gentry and middle class in England during the 19th century. Though not very popular during her time, Jane Austen’s strong characters and lifelike perspective on romance soon gained popularity. She was popular for penning literary classics such as Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma. Despite being two centuries since these timeless classics were first released, Jane Austen’s books are loved by all and are being discovered by new generations with each passing day.
