When the lives of the natives of an entire village hinge on the outcome of a game, the locals must learn a sport that they barely know. Directed and written by Ashutosh Gowariker, and starring Aamir Khan, Gracy Singh and Rachel Shelley, Lagaan is a musical adventure-drama film that’s set in Victorian India. When the residents of a village are excessively burdened by the taxes placed upon them by the Britishers and they are unable to compensate due to their poor agricultural production - a wager is put in play. The bet involves a cricket match between the Britishers and the locals who have no clue about the game. If the locals manage to win, the taxes will be waived for a span of three years. Nominated for an Academy and having won 8 National Film Awards, 9 Filmfare Awards, 9 Screen Awards, and 10 IIFA Awards, this motion picture is a magnificent masterpiece.
