Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

What do the different tags like 'In Stock', 'Available' mean?

      'In Stock'

Products‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Available'

Products listed as ‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Preorder' or 'Forthcoming'

The product is not released yet. You can however ‘book’ an order for this. Shipping happens only after the product launch.

      'Out of Stock'

Currently, the item is not available for sale. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know once it is available for purchase.

      'Imported'

Sometimes, items have to be sourced by Sellers from outside India. These items are mentioned as 'Imported' on the product page and can take at least 10 days or more to be delivered to you.

      'Back In Stock Soon'

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

      'Temporarily Unavailable'

The product is currently out of stock and is not available for purchase. The product could to be in stock soon. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know when it is available for purchase.

      'Permanently Discontinued'

This product is no longer available because it is obsolete and/or its production has been discontinued.

      'Out of Print'

This product is not available because it is no longer published and has been permanently discontinued.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

    Description

Lajja – In a New Translation is the English version of the brave book penned by Taslima Nasrin, originally written in Bengali.

    Summary of the Book

This title made Taslima Nasrin flee her country, Bangladesh, due to alleged death threats, and live in exile. Written as a response to anti-Hindu riots that erupted in Bangladesh as a result of Babri Masjid disaster in India in 1992, the book was banned in her country. However, it sold about fifty thousand copies in the first six months soon after publication. It was dedicated to the people of the Indian subcontinent and firmly asserted that the name for religion must be humanism. Based on the Babri Masjid episode in Ayodhya, the story of Lajja revolves around the Dutta family in Bangladesh, which faces the heat of communal hatred that spreads across borders. Sudhamoy, the head of the family strongly believes that his homeland will never let him down, and his wife Kiranmayee stands by him. Their son, Suranjan, who always believed that nationalism would always be stronger than communalism, will be eventually disappointed. He resorts to communal reactions, which makes his sister Nilanjana curse his indifference. She asks him to take their family to a Muslim friend’s house to escape the wrath of communal chaos. The novel depicts how violence and disillusionment take over humanism because of communal riots, and how it affects people at individual level.

    About Taslima Nasrin

Taslima Nasrin was born in Bangladesh. A former physician and an author, Taslima has been living in exile since 1994. She works for secular humanism, freedom of thought and equality for women. Some of her most notable works are: Shodh, Bhromor Koio Gia, Narir Kono Desh Nei, Nirbashito Bahire Ontore, and Nimontron.

    Very shocking read

Bangladesh was liberated by India in 1971 and then its constitution was hijacked by ISLAMIC fundamentalists. As with any ISLAMIC country where minorities are suppressed, LAJJA accounts the destruction of Hindu temples very un-apologetically and sincerely.

Lajja clearly explains how the Hindus were betrayed by Bangladesh in a ONE-SIDED communal flare up post Babri Masjid. How can close to 25% Hindu population in Bangladesh during 1947/8 be reduced to 10 % in current times?

    Islamic fundament...

Bad bad writing. Most disappointing and overrated!

This has to be one of the most overrated and disappointing read for me of all times. The book is written shabbily to say the least.

It is set in Bangladesh in 90s when Babri Masjid led to Hindu Muslim riots and ostracizing of Hindus into leaving their own country and migrate to india. The plot was such that it could've been so much more, but the Tasleema Nasrin restricts herself like a librarian who archives the books. She writes pages after pages, mentioning which temple was demolished wher...

    A Savage Indictment on Fundamentalism

Oh dear, I don’t know what to say about this book or the story. The blurb at the back of the book gives an impression that this is a story about the Dutta family, but the Dutta family members are used as stock characters to highlight issues in Bangladesh, and this book is mostly non-fiction with a paper-thin wrapper of a story surrounding it. So, if you go into the book hoping for an emotional and powerful read, you are not going to get it.

What you will get is pages upon pages of facts thro...
