    Description
Legacy is the story of Anita and Darshan, two teenagers in love, set up in the chaotic post Independence India. Their search is on, not for something concrete but abstract, while they explore the land they love and the people they live among. But fate betrays them. Their ideologies diverge and the road forks. Love, both presence and absence of it, runs through the tale, while Indian story unfolds for a free, but confused generation.Summary: Legacy is set in post Independent India, and weaves together the stories of Darshan and Anita, ambitious rural teenagers from Bihar; Darshan's father Shankar, an RSS supporter from a freedom fighter family; and Subhash, the son of the protagonists.Darshan, proud resident of an exotic village, is inspired to leave his adventurous hostel life to join the student movement of 1975 under the firebrand Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan. Grounded in an Anglo Indian village during the repressive Emergency, he falls in love with his free-spirited senior Anita. Wading through teenage love and exciting college adventures of 1970s Delhi, they forsake education on JP's death to explore Bihar. Disgusted by the traumatic Sikh riots and saddened by his father's death, Darshan finds a guide in a swami rumoured to be Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. While fate turns Anita into a Naxal strategist, Darshan, seeking solace, turns into an acclaimed mystery healer. The old love sparks again while violent communal events keep shocking India. Sadly, Anita forsakes the world of Maoist violence and hypocritical civil society, sending their five-year-old son Subhash away. The estranged son, now an adult, tries to fathom his parent's lives and unfulfilled dreams while an exhausted yet optimistic Darshan entrusts the baton of social revolution to the next generation.Legacy shows how the chaotic story of 1960s to 1990s India gave rise to real heroes, though flawed in their own ways. While we keep looking for ways to improve the lives of our fellow beings, the boundary between a hero and a criminal often fades. Brief reviewsThe inspiring and exciting story of India. An incredible debut.

    An excellent debut

This book is a delightful read. Besides the gripping plot and unexpected twists in the story that captures the reader's imagination, the well researched events fill the blanks of Indian history that are not so well known to our generation.

I think the Indian education system needs to acknowledge that the post independence period has not been given its due importance in school curriculum - which is where most of us have read history. This period has laid the foundation of our national politic...

    Legacy - Debut Extraordinaire

I brought this book few weeks back and initially could not relate much to the narrative author was trying to tell...However as i moved on to the third chapter i found depth and continuity and the way story unfolded thereafter just kept me going till i finished reading it. Overall a fantastic debut by Mohan Prasad and the book presents a fantastic account of India over the years and the same is extremely well told.

A good, and more importantly, an informative read.

Mohan's book "Legacy" explores the myraid mosaic of political, social and cultural events and movements of modern Indian history. The vivid descriptions of his book about the dusty fields of Bihar and its people ring true as the author is describing his homeland. Painstakingly collected little nuggets of historical information surprise readers busting popular myths about political events and famous personalities. A good, and more importantly, an informative read.

Legacy : A wonderful Debut by Mohan Prasad

Two revolutionaries in love; they want to improve the lives of their fellowmen, yet one of the protagonist falls for fame and money while the other decides to seek succor in solitude. Yet somehow the love story is just the spine around which the skeleton and flesh of story of India has been built. There was scope for more flesh, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. The writer has draped facts and history with a veneer of fiction. He has not hesitated to burst the bubbles of myth and lies which we liv...

LEGACY BY MOHAN : AN AMAZING START

The story of Bihar, the story of Jharkhand, and the story of India as a whole. The book has provided what we missed in our history classes, yet has told a love story that was too engaging to leave at any point. The breadth of the book is amazing, in that it touches village life, college life, Naxalism, communalism, Godmen, RSS and lives of revolutionaries. The line where it says “It’s not for others that we humans want to leave a Legacy, but for us” really touched me. Am waiting for the next ...

A masterpiece of fiction interlaced with history

The book will transport you into the world of history, romance, sacrifice, learning and wisdom that the author has created so beautifully with the help of those carefully written lines. I was mesmerized by the lucid writing which reached a form of poetry at certain places...quoting a line from "Invisible Hero".."A candle was fighting a lonely battle against the engulfing darkness." The depth of understanding, maturity and expressiveness defies the fact that this is author's debut book. I have...
