A Castaway in the Pacific

This is a story of a castaway adrift in the Pacific Ocean, in the company of a tiger. Plot wise, it doesn’t seem to offer much in terms of the potential for a gripping narrative. But a gripping narrative it indeed is. The castaway’s survival strategies and his resourcefulness make for absorbing reading. But it is much more than that. Through the eyes of the castaway, the book looks at the universal themes of despair, hope, belief, courage, a sense of purpose, the will to survive. It is abo...

Good but not great

The beginning how he described his life in Pondicherry was good. How he survives the ship wreck was interesting. But some parts were unbelievable and awkward. The ending had a great twist but wasn't good.

Please DON'T read it

Its CRAP. The story does not move from the beginning till the end. The first part of the book my be taken as a text for a 6 years kid with chapters like Swimming, Zoo, Religion etc.

There are many reasons why one should NOT READ this book:
- Its completely draggy.
- Everyone might feel empathy for a person who was trapped by such a tragedy. But that does not entail that he feels same gratitude listening to his daily routine, diet etc. compelled in such tragic state.

NICE BUT TOO LONG

A good starting but became boring at the middle. Well I think Yann Martel stretched it too much. It had a nice starting with some funny lines and some scary. Got fed up with the sea towards the end but somehow finished it. All in all, it's a book for a patient person. I have read much thicker books but it just got stuck in the middle on the part at which Pi got stuck in the middle of the Ocean. It started to lose its flow.

Mantra of Pi: "You must take life the way it comes at you and make the best of it"

Like many before, I read "Life of Pi" to know how the hell does a boy in the Pacific survive with a Tiger on board, and I am glad I read it.
Yann Martel has a weird way of putting things in place and in this Book he explained so many equations of Life that I wonder how I didn't see it that way before...
Quotes as such as this
"Love is hard to believe ask any lover,
Life is hard to believe ask any scientist,
God is hard to believe ask any believer" are some of the few ways he delves...
It ...

Not really

I started reading this novel with great enthusiasm but almost dragged myself to finish it. Huge disappointment from a 'Man Booker' winner. The book dragged like the length of the sea. No climatic end to summon up the misery I went through to reach it.

A Spell binding, captivating story ! Highly recommended !

A story of a boy stuck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean with a hyens, an injured Zebra, an orangutan and a Bengal tiger. The book is not a mere collection of events that happen in the 227 days of survival, but it delves deeper into our belief systems, spirituality and life, in general.

This is where the book hits a home run. It forces you to pause for a moment, think , contemplate on a variety of things and then read on.

Highly recommended !
