Linux Device Drivers
This book is a great starter for writing and understanding Linux device drivers, and, in fact is also a reference book for basic concepts. As is the GPL code available freely, this book is also available like that, but, it's worth purchasing if you keep coming back to the text for reference.

A good book indeed
Great Book. Its even mentioned in the Kernel Documentation too. So you gotta keep this book in your arsenal if you need to build good drivers.
It would had been great if there would had been some ready to run program examples.

Good book for Linux device driver developer
Very good book to start off with for Linux Device Driver developer. It doesn't cover the internals of Linux kernel. For knowing about kernel internals, Linux Kernel Development from Robert Love would help.
