A refreshing journey through relationships. And love.

In the chaos of today, the novel Lovers Like You and I, by Minakshi Thakur, is a breath of fresh air. It will take you to a time when people wrote letters, where expressions were subtle, and romance was quiet. Nayan and Salil, the central characters of the novel, will remind you of someone you love/loved in the past. It is almost effortless to identify with them because the language of love remains unchanged, despite changing times. The letters are the soul of the novel. From the streets of D...

Lovers Like You and I weaves all these elements in a way that ensures that you are surrounded in a comforting embrace of familiar smells, sounds, and sights. Yet, you experience a novelty that leaves you craving for some orange juice, short and long letters, a shared smoke, numerous cups of Irish coffee, never-ending strolls that take you nowhere, and love. An Enriching Experience

Lovers like You and I is an enriching experience. A love story- highlighting myriad nuances of life as it used to be in the 90's Delhi- it talks about a lot of people not delving too much into any one. Beneath every character, the protagonist Nayan's life moves as an undercurrent, emotionally quintessential and interspersed with beautiful references to Indian classical music. The word love, has been done justice to by the simple yet profound emotional dealings between very different people.

    simply UNPUTDOWNABLE

The love story of Nayan and Salil unfolds beautifully through a series of letters - a window to human emotions of the lovers and those around them. The storytelling is easy, subtle and heart warming. The characters are our everyday people who we come across- some we love and adore and some we simply do not understand. The author ensures that you crave for more of every character in the book - their love, affection, passions - and see them to their logical end. Some are sad endings but they re...

One of the best love stories I have read

It is one of the most interesting narrative I have read. Interestingly written and very well defined characters. They are deep, sympathetic and relatable. It's heart breaking and easily puts it back together. Loved it. Highly recommended.

A charming and a touching read

It’s a story of a pace of life that we have now forgotten. Of unhurried invasion of thoughts, of surer feelings of love, yet the willingness of letting go even if it is just for a bit. Definitely refreshing than the common place blink and miss cafe romances that seem to be the norm now. Letters, surely a territory, lovelorn people have resorted to atleast once in their lifetimes. The book is a sweet reminder of all that innocence, passion and ingenuity that expression of love consumes.

    It’s...

    Good read

Lovers Like You and I is a book of a quiet sensitivity and sensibility that is rare to find in Indian writing today. Whether it is Ratri and Tarun, Jeeban and Meera, Palash and Maithili or the protagonists Nayan and Salil, Minakshi Thakur dwells on the many disappointments of love. Not that this is a tear-jerker about hopelessness and heartbreak. Far from it, it is understated, helping 'Lovers Like You and I' make peace with the heaviness we find settling on our hearts late at night at some p...

It's the Bagmati - witness to my love, my life - that has come bursting out...

A portrayal of private worlds of our own, unknown to friends, unknown to family, but uncanny to lovers like you and I ..
Minakshi Thakur, a born poet, meticulously weaves the prose and explores a new realm of Indian English writing. Tales of urban essentials, set up in late 90s and early 2000's, the story creates shades of strange love between letters and poems with a musical background. Minakshi has done justice to the much-awaited and the much-delayed debut novel, but it has arrive like t...

Love and longing so truthfully defined. The illustrations complementing Nayan's life and thoughts so beautifully. I wish Nayan (the main protagonist) the love of the world and that she travels far and wide with her story.
