A classic self-help book that’s been around since 1959, The Magic Of Thinking Big is a plan-oriented guide that discusses the secrets to achievement in a systematic step-by-step layout. David Schwartz combines excerpts from his personal life and interesting stories to arrange his premise for motivating readers.
Summary Of The Book
The Magic Of Thinking Big engaged a wide readership since its release because of the content the self-help book championed and brought to readers. The motivational expert, Schwartz, begins his book with the story of a salesman who by the simple law of expectation managed to sell more even though he had nothing else going for him. He wasn’t smarter nor did he work harder than others, but he simply thought he could sell more.
This is the beauty of positive thinking and the author lays this premise down not just in the frame of the present but also in terms of the future that every individual holds dear to him. Making your attitude your ally is an old trick in the book, but Schwartz holds down this classic take with a more or less relevant view that is more comprehensible to readers.
He also tells readers about the importance of broadcasting good news, which he expounds in one chapter. Here, he talks about the effects of good news as a placebo to further knocking of news of similar accord. Communicating is always a good thing and if it is about a good thing then that’s a complete win-win situation with more rewards to look forward to. The main enemy at hand is the human mind and he takes it upon himself to explain to readers the significance of the engine of thinking. The relativity of rewards and gains are discussed with laconic precision and readers are likely to benefit.
The book also looks into the three failure diseases that he talks about, which are excuse-itis, detail-itis, and procrastination, and provides perfectly simple and effective analogies to explicate these failures and how they manifest in the mind of any individual. The book has thirteen chapters, and a few of them are How to Think and Dream Creatively, Make Your Attitudes Your Allies, How to Think Big, Believe You Can Succeed and You Will, You Are What You Think You Are, Get the Action Habit, and the last one titled How To Think Like A Leader.
The book has sold over 4 million copies since its publication and through several reissues and editions put to print because of the exciting material it contains. The legendary football coach, Lou Holtz, credits The Magic of Thinking Big for his personal successes as among several other prominent readers who became leaders.
