The Sanskrit epic Mahabharata was translated into English for the first time by Kisari Mohan Ganguli (also known as K. M. Ganguli), an Indian translator. The Mahabharata of Krishna-Dwaipayana Vyasa, the product of his translation, was released. Between 1883 and 1896, Pratap Chandra Roy (1842–1955), a bookseller in Calcutta who owned a printing press and gathered money for the undertaking, translated the work into English prose.
