Description

Maharani is a riveting novel for adults, written by the celebrated Indian author, Ruskin Bond.

Summary of the Book

Ruskin Bond once again entertains his ardent fans with the story of H.H. - a humorous story set in the hills. The novel has a touch of supernatural elements and beautiful, seductive maharanis. The book presents a different perspective on the life of Jim Corbett. H.H. is a self-centred, spoilt, but beautiful wife of the Maharajah of Mastipur. She lives a lavish life - drinking, and taking and discarding lovers, among other things. She is oblivious to the outside world. H.H. has a few dogs, with Hans is their caretaker, and they all live in a huge house in Mussorie. Why is the Maharani the way she is? Discover in this brilliant piece written by the master storyteller.

Vivid memoir of a lady as seen through pages of Ruskin's diary

I have always loved to read Ruskin Bond.
This novel tells about Ninna (the second wife of the Maharaja of Mastipur) is a vivid story-telling way! Many events, persons, and those evening talks associated with the lady has been pictured in a vivid and free flowing language.
Its not just the kids who would love the book, but grown ups who have a better and comprehensive idea of life - how it passes with time - should appreciate the writing much more.
I am not an old person, and am in my 30s, and...

Mr.Bond You disappointed us this time :(

Honestly I used to wait for Ruskin Bond's Books desperately and I had waited the same for this book MAHARANI too and I preordered and received the book in great condition and started reading it. And I am sorry to say I didn't like it at all. I had just some memorable moments but they won't do justice for the price and the book. So RB had finally disappointed.

Maharani

Maharani. I am so glad I read it in the summer month of April, because Maharani is best read in the summer, on a vacation, day-dreaming of the life in the foothills of Himalayas, dreaming what would one do if one had a quaint blue cottage in Mussorie and friends like H. H. Neena and Sheela and Leela?. It is a smooth-gliding narrative woven around the life, relationships and times of the Maharani of Mastipur.
Maharani brings the joy of reading back in the reader’s life. While I read the novel...

A light read

You can finish off this book in one go.. the narration of the story is very impressive. however it doesn't hold you once you have read it. It may be good for teens to read.. The cover page of the book makes me happy but not the story.. too boring at the end..

Not Ruskin Bond-like

It is a BIG disappointment. Does not have the Ruskin Bond flavor at all, seems he needed some money quickly so he wrote a novel. The humor is forced and the story line very thin.
I bought the book only because of Ruskin Bond but sorry to say I wasted my money on this one.

Light yet engrossing one from Ruskin Bond

Read a Ruskin Bond novel after a very long time and was not disappointed one bit! As some people have pointed out, it does not have a proper plot but keeps you engrossed nonetheless. That's the magic and power of Ruskin Bond!

A little vague but enjoyable

Maharani is what one would call a light Sunday read. There is no plot as such, just a string of quirky anecdotes glued together by postcolonial nostalgia rather than any central theme or purpose. Read this one only to appreciate Ruskin's charming prose.
