Anupama looked into the mirror and shivered with shock. A small white patch had now appeared on her arm.' Anupama's fairytale marriage to Anand falls apart when she discovers a white patch on her foot and learns that she has leukoderma. Abandoned by her uncaring in-laws and insensitive husband, she is forced to return to her father's home in the village. The social stigma of a married woman living with her parents, her steother's continual barbs and the ostracism that accompanies her skin condition force her to contemplate suicide. Determined to rebuild her life against all odds, Anupama goes to Bombay where she finds success, respect and the promise of an enduring friendship. Mahashweta is an inspiring story of courage and resilience in a world marred by illusions and betrayals. This poignant tale offers hope and solace to the victims of the prejudices that govern society even today.

This book is wonderful. It opened my eyes and changed my view towards persons suffering from leukoderma. Trully an emotional one.The book is about a ordinary girl like u and me who suddenly realises one day that she has leukoderma. it made me connect to the character very easily as if i felt she was one of my own loved ones. The phases of life she passed through is beautifully described in each of the chapter of this book. the writer also possess a capability to capture the emotions and the e...

    A Powerful Message

I have read a few books by Ms.Sudha Murthy and every book seems to convey a powerful message. It is upto the reader to take home the message. The story is a pretty simple one and the language as usual is also pretty simple. The most touching part was the last page which no review on flipkart has shed light on.It says a man read this book and finally agreed to marry the same woman with whom his engagement was broken because she suddenly developed leukoderma.Pretty happy that the book has made a d...

    Amazing book...must read

Mahashwetha sounded a very strange title for a fiction sort of book. First impression was may be it is some mythological drama or something like that......but as I started reading I just couldn't help but completed it in a single go.
I am already an ardent Sudha Murthy fan and was expecting this to be a good one but this one is excellent. It explains about the trauma a leucoderma patient goes through both physically and mentally. In depth characterization, clear and apt writing style are the ...

    Excellent

An absolutely amazing book by Shrimati Murthy. The book intricately weaves the relationship of leucoderma and it's social stigma. The protagonist Anupama is shown to react varidely to the different problems she faces in her life. I always love Sudha Murthyjis books and she is a prolific writer having a knack for extremely emotional and truthful stories which shocase the actual scenario of the Indian Society at large.

    A Poignant Story

The story is about Anupama who is detected with Leukoderma a few days after her marriage. Betrayed by her husband, including her near and dear ones, she is uplifted by her passion for Theatre & arts. With help from her friends, she somehow finds the resilience to fight back and create a small world of her own.

This book is a subtle reminder of all the things that we take for granted in our lives. It draws us back to the reality that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder or handsome is as h...
