Best Place for First Look and Motivation

Granted that this doesn't quite have the obesity (or what Physicists like to call Comprehensiveness) of Arfken/Weber but at least it's supremely readable.

It starts at the beginning and actually goes a long way. While most of the problems are not anywhere close to challenging compared to some other books (Riley or Arfken springs to mind), they involve drills that are so useful to build up muscles in a new area of Physics.

My recommendations- if you're an undergraduate first or second year ...

A beautiful book

Most people who come across this book seem to fall into two categories: some disparage it and say the author isn't rigorous enough, or says silly and unnecessary things like the fact that both 'i' and 'j' denote the imaginary unit.

I am in the other camp. If you, like me, struggle with the math and thus find your understanding of physics obscured, you can find no better book. Just as Prof. Boas advises, be sure to work through the problems at the end of each section -- else there's no learni...

Good content, bad paper quality

An awesome book for physicist and engineers who desire to learn mathematical tools as fast as possible and reach quickly to the application level. The book is concise, to the point and in this sense it respects the intelligence of the reader. No elaborate confusing descriptions, unlike most textbooks prescribed for engineering colleges.
In terms of content quality, 5 stars. Unfortunately, no review is complete without mentioning product quality. The book is smaller than i expected, with sm...

Brilliant !!

The book is trully brilliant starting out with Progressions & Power series and how they are used in different scenario. This theme is maintained throughout the book where you would learn 10 times more by solving problems than by reading the text. Although it's a Wiley India version, and the paper quality is slightly bad, its decent enough not to put you off the book. Anyone who buys this book must give himself enough time to literally go through this book steadily in order to reap the benefit...

Good

It's good for practicing problems and improving your math skills. Some basic concepts are explained very well. It's a must have for students aspiring to be physicists. I still refer to it after all these years.
