The Walls is the prison experience of Basheer, who was imprisoned for writing against the British. Basheer meets Narayani in the prison for women prisoners beyond the wall. The two fall in love without even seeing each other. They exchange gifts. The two think of a way to meet each other. Their plan was to meet on the same day after a few days at the hospital attached to the prison. Basheer, who is eagerly waiting for that, has to hear the news that he will be released from prison before that. He starts to feel that the release he had longed for until then is not there. The Malayalam novel made Basheer experience the small showers of love that he had not experienced until then. This novel was made into a film by Adoor Gopalakrishnan with the same name. Mammootty played the role of Basheer.
