E. Selvam was born and brought up in Seeram Palayam, a village from Tiruvanammalai district. Being from a very poor family he struggled a lot to complete his education. Seeing his interest and hard work, his mother had to pledge her gold jewels to help him graduate. He completed his M.A from Annamalai University. His love towards Tamil language is extraordinary. He left his career to fulfil his dream of becoming a famous Tamil poet. This is his first book which brings out the hardship of a woman in Indian society.
