An in-depth sight to Bombay

Long ago a friend of mine had encouraged me to read a single chapter of this book. I could not put it down after that! When I found this book on Flipkart I knew I had to own it. This book is one of those books which you want to keep in the library you are ''oh so proud off''.

The language is simple to understand and easy to read. It is very blunt in it's description and tells vivid stories of the individuals who live in the 'Maximum City'.

A stunning book!

This non-fiction book is an extraordinary sweep of the Mumbai city with a pen that is mightier than a sword. Bombay was never told in this way!

It is an intimate portrait of that big, bad, commercial, much harangued city. The book is essentially a travelogue, memoir, and a fine essence of personal history; it has stories of under-world dons, dance bar girls and mafia games. A stunning book really. You will be stoned to know that never has Mumbai been painted in those colours ever before. I’...

An average book

To start with, this book is not much about Mumbai- The City, but more about incidents which have marred or shaped the existence of this city, along with chapters about people from certain industry and profession with whom the author had a chance to interact and do research upon during his stay in Mumbai.
So to set the expectation correctly, this book doesn’t cover the political & cultural history of the city comprehensively. Also there are references to the “Spirit of Mumbai” but this book i...

Delicious - Full of Mumbai

This book is wonderful. Okay, yes Bombay has become progressively worse in the past few years, but this book is about the culture of what has defined Bombay. For a person who is new to Bombay, the first thing he feels about the city is the salty fell of the Arabian Sea. Reading this book makes you feel like getting that first feel of Bombay all over again - yes you know the past two decades of that have defined Bombay - riots, underworld, rains, Shiv Sena and of course Bollywood since long. T...

Touches all aspects of India's most intriguing city

It's a good book, but perhaps it's better suited for those who are from Mumbai.
A few parts are great. Some are just average.
