Born in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, Ranjeet Desai was a renowned Marathi writer famous for his historical novels Sriman Yogi and Swami. Desai is the recipient of awards such as the Padmashri, the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Hari Narayan Apte Award, the Maharashtra Rajya Award and the Maharashtra Gaurav Puraskar. He has also written many plays and movie scripts. He died at the age of 63, in the year 1992.
