A must read

Very beautiful description of Life of Geishas, how theblife of Japanese people changes during the war and aftereffects. Especially the writer never lets you feel that it's a work of fiction as it says. He did a good amount of research, the details makes you feel that you are take to that period in Gion !
Flipkart never lets me down when it comes to delivery, fast and good ! 💕

Good choice

The quality of book and print is good. It's an old classic, captivating story. Order if you like the drama/classic genre. Good way to read about old Japanese culture.

Good one time read

Set in the 1930’s Japan, memoirs of a geisha is a fictional story of a young girl who is forced by circumstances to take up the profession of a geisha. A well narrated story opens up the illusive world of these Japanese entertainers. Through the eyes of young Chiyo, you see the life in a Okia and the dynamics between the geishas. You are treated to a crash course in the Japanese culture from the making and significance of kimonos To the artful Japanese tea ceremony.

Seductive and EpiC TalE

If u liked the movie u should go for the book it's just beautiful .It's like Sayuri itself is telling her life story itself much of the novel is set in the popular geisha district of Gion in Kyoto, and contains references to actual places frequented by geisha and their patrons, such as the Ichiriki Ochaya. Part of the story is also set in the Amami Islands, and Sayuri narrates the story from her suite in the Waldorf towers in New York City.

A memorable read

This was the first book i bought on flipkart and by far the best. Sayuri makes you feel like you're in her place, on her shoes. A complete page turner. But not everyone may enjoy the life and happenings in a Geisha's life. Nonetheless, its a beautiful book, beautifully composed, a thorough view on the life of Japanese people, life after war, Sayuri's life after the war. Its an all time favorite.

Good choice

The service of Flipkart was despicable to say the least. The book I received had yellowish pages and a dusty paperback.

As for the book, the story is set in an engaging way and the characters are complex and interesting. It is an awesome read.

A Good Starter

It is a good book.As i didnt see the movie before reading the book, i found the book very gripping and with a fast pace of storyline. Its written very nicely and in simple language. After reading the book i felt an urge to read more about Geisha and their life in Gion.Though as per wiki all the facts in the book about the geisha life are not correct. But its a must read book, atleast to start with if you want to know more about Geisha.

Read it for the cultural insight

It's quite sad how most of us have such little knowledge of the customs, traditions, and day-to-day life in cultures outside of India and the West. The story narrated in this book is nothing very exceptional to be frank, a poignant account of a little girl coming of age and falling in love; but the real USP of this book is the insight it gives into Japanese culture- the traditions of the mysterious world of the Geisha, the way they train in the most intricate of art forms to entertain the crè...
