Description

Miles to Run before I Sleep is the real-life story of Sumedha Mahajan, a married, professional woman who undertook an inspiring journey as a runner. It is an account of a tough adventure and a motivational story about finding oneself.

Summary of the Book

At an age when most women worry about household responsibilities and finances or starting a family, Sumedha Mahajan wanted to take the road that was less traveled by and pursue her dreams. She was born with asthma and had to visit the hospital frequently throughout her childhood. She began running to keep herself fit and prevent asthma attacks, but it evolved into a passion and way of life. Then, in April 2012, she decided to run 1,500 kilometers from Delhi to Mumbai in thirty days. Although it started as a physical challenge in the beginning, it became a mental struggle eventually and pushed Sumedha to her limits. But she did not give up. As she made her triumphant way to the finish line, she overcame not only her physical defects, but also the unreasonable prejudice of those around her, who were certain that she would not be successful in her attempts.

"It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward"

The other reviewers before me have summed it up quite well in terms of what the book contains, so there is no point of me going down that road again. This is not just a fairytale story or an accomplishment of just one individual. Her journey reminds us to keep picking ourselves up everytime we see a roadblock/failure be it physical/emotional/psychological and that we are a product of our own limiting beliefs. So it makes sense for every individual in all walks of life to stretch those limits....

Her Conditions and the awkward situations makes even the reader ask the question "she should stop now.. why she doesn't ?" but she keeps it going , going and going...

Simply Amazing

Tera haunsla hi teri shaan hai
Tera hanusla hi teri aan hai
Na darna tu aane waali aandhiyon se
Tu ek bahadur ladki ki pehchaan hai
The author has proved to the whole world that a woman with her strong heart and a will power can overcome the hardest of the challenges, no matter whether her body approves of it or not.
There are moments when I cried while reading the book. Felt like hugging this woman, kissing her on her forehead and telling her 'Don't worry Chinu you are going to make it'.
