This is the best OS book for most of the undergraduate computer science students. I have checked other books, but I have sticked to tanenbaum. He is good.( MINIX is the product developed by him and his research students under his leadership)

Narration in the book is very interesting that will grab your attention deeply. Whenever some one ask me for a beginner OS book.

I would always recommend Modern Operating System from Tanenbaum

The book contains good explanation of core concepts of operating systems as well as details of some modern operating systems through case study.
The examples are nicely framed and help text is also good.
Its really good book not only for preparation of interviews but also to gain good understanding of concepts.

Only for students who want to penetrate deep into OS world. Book on operating system by SILBESRCHATZ, GALVIN & GAGNE is good but TANENBAUM is 100 times better!! Recommended only for CURIOUS & KNOWLEDGE HUNGRY STUDENTS!!!!

galvin is just to touch base the surface.. tanembaum is everything in detail. the best i have read. i have read galvin completely and it also gives you a feel of what could happen. but tanembaum tells you exactly what will happen and what will not happen, this book is too good.

Good book and packaging was not that bad. Quality of book was really good.

Covers all subjects very well. Provides history and context. Could have done a little better with solved examples, especially Disk Algorithms, but still the best book

book is good, but its very big.. they have simply taken unnecessary examples to teach straightforward things. If u have less time and want to study OS, then dont go for this, buy galvin. But if u r 2nd 3rd year student, then surely go for it

it is very easy languague to understand the operatig system concepts and for the basic knowledge and if you are a B.E. student it is the best reference
