    Description
No instance of communal violence has provoked as much controversy as the Gujarat 2002 carnage, in which over 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed. And none has been subjected to as much fact-finding, especially under the monitoring of the Supreme Court. Sifting through the wealth of official material, this book contends that the fact-finding - riddled as it was with ambiguities and deceptions, gaps and contradictions - glossed over crucial pieces of evidence, and thereby shielded the powers that be. Though it gave a clean chit to Chief Minister Narendra Modi in 2012, the Supreme Court-appointed special investigation team (SIT) left unasked a range of key questions on the anti-Muslim violence following the burning of a train in Godhra carrying Hindutva activists. How could Modi claim, Manoj Mitta asks, to have been unaware, for nearly five hours, of the first post-Godhra massacre, which took place at Ahmedabad's Gulberg Society? How does this claim square with his admission that he was tracking the violence as it unfolded? Why did Modi take five days to visit riot-affected areas in Ahmedabad and a month to meet Muslim victims in a refugee camp? Why were forensic experts called to see the burnt Godhra coach only after two months, although it had been open to the public throughout that period? What exactly did Modi celebrate in his Gaurav Yatra, which he launched within six months of the carnage? Why did the Gujarat police sit for six years on the call data records of the riot period? Scrupulously researched, The Fiction of Fact-finding draws telling parallels between Gujarat 2002 and the 1984 massacre of Sikhs in Delhi to underline an insidious pattern in Indian democracy: the subversion of the criminal justice system, under a shroud of legal platitudes, by the ruling dispensation.

Excellent book not for bigots !

Everyone Loves Riot as long as it dosent happen in your front of your eyes. if you are bigot dont read this.

This book actually makes the Pre and Post godhra what where the incidents and how vajpayee (a sole liberal leader from BJP) was worried about "rajdharma" in Gujarat wanted to unseat modi and how advani who protected modi & as to how supreme court lashed the highcourt of Gujarat and transferred cases. It also says how harish salve senior advocate (as amicus curiae by SC) put weight bac...

A THROUGHLY WELL RESEARCHED BOOK WITH AMAZING TRUTHS

This book has many dimensions , how things happened?,how the events were camouflaged? &,the judicial system apathy and controversial SIT , It seems the state government machinery worked hard to erase everything from the horrific events, Sadly , they were successful. that no any clinching evidence is available.Kudos to Manoj Mitta for such painstaking efforts, Alas!such an analytic book is not going to be popular in the era of the viral [pathological ] media reaction.

    Compelling reading....

THE FICTION OF FACT FINDING – A Study on the Gujarat 2002 investigations – Modi and Godhra – Manoj Mitta

Manoj Mitta is a Hyderabadi, a friend of my brother Ravi – think they were classmates in school - specializes on Public Policy and Human Rights issues – and a Senior Editor with Times of India and based in Delhi. He has already written a book on 1984 Sikh Rights. So he is kind of a Communal Riots specialist. The book has been extensively reviewed in the Indian press and rated very well…co...

    Great book!!

This book is not for blind followers (be they of Modi or any other political outfit). Read this book only if you have an open mind about Modi and the BJP. The author has probably put in a lot of research into this book. Although there are some places, where the content is based purely on the author's perception, most of the book is based on hard facts.

    I am not convinced

The book is well written with lot of research and hard work. However from the way book is written it seems that there was already a view author held before he/she started doing research and hence all the research and hard work was intended to prove inefficiency of SIT and complicity of Modi government. It seems heavily biased and do not give much idea about what really happened in Modi's mind and his government when riots took place. Their previous book about 1984 riots was comparatively much...

Hey Manoj Mitta, Who Is The PM of India? :)

The writer is full of hatred for Narendra Modi, and had written this book as a hit job on Modi before the 2014 election, hoping to create a controversy and prevent Modi from becoming the PM of India. Sadly for mercenary Manoj, people of India have given him a fitting reply. I can imagine the depression he is going through :)

An attempt to become famous controversial by attending controversial topic...sadly an epic FAILURE!

A violence in any form is violence but the question nobody wants to attend is "who burnt the people in train and why? why there is no special investigation committee formed on these?? Its so naive and rather desperate attempt from many people to attempt post godhara incidence and not the real godhara incidence which led to the serious havoc throughout the nation. Can we expect a same level of book or sympathy or agony for the people who were brutally burnt alive inside Sabarmati Express????

    Worthless

Worst Book...You can't write a Book with one sided views..As this topic is Headhunter since many years, there are many secret lies in it on both the sides..Author has just reaserched on ine side which is against the Govt. & Claiming Narendra Modi a Culprit..And that's when I realised why this book is not famous..
Again, language of the book is very very poor.Language seems like Lawyer is drafting case for his client..Like we are readers not Lawyers or Law Students and this book is neither for ...
