Description

In Mrityunjaya: The Death Conqueror, the author, Shivaji Sawant, depicts the autobiography of Karna.

Summary of the Book

More so often, the study of Karna’s character has been the study of existentialism through Veda Vyasa’s epic. In this book, the author describes the mysterious similarities between Krishna and Karna. He tries to hint at a numinous link between the two characters. He gives a more-than-human aura and dimension to Karna’s character in this book, delving deep into the subtle layers that Vyasa has created for him.

About Shivaji Sawant

Shivaji was born in Maharashtra, India. He was a writer of History, Historical Fiction, and Biography. His works have been translated from Marathi to Hindi, English, Kannada, Gujarati and Malayalam. He has also authored: Yugandhara, Kanchan Kan, Chhava, Kavadase, and Purushottamnama, among other books.

Great book...excellent translation...

After reading the previous reviews, I was careful and looked out for any printing errors. There were none. This hard-bound edition looks classy with gilt-edged pages.

The book in itself is a phenomenal read.

The author makes us empathize with Karna, without twisting any of the conventional plot-points in the Mahabharata. The language construct (even in the translation) is exquisite.
This book is a must read for readers (who like this genre - a modern style of retelling of Mahabharata with ...

Great Book, But Printing error

I bought this book in June 2012, and had to return as the binding was coming out. Thanks to great customer service I was able to get it done.
Unfortunately I could not start reading the book immediately and started it only a month back.
After enjoying the read of 200 pages, I landed on a grave printing error in the book. Page number 221-236 have been printed twice, while 237-251 are missing. I've not gone further as I'm a bit put down for now.
Unfortunately, I cannot get it exchanged also b...

Great book, bad print

Unfortunately, the book print quality is not so great. The paper is thin. In some places, the text is blurred. (You may say, it is of good quality for a pirated version).

Having said that, this is one of the best books that I have ever read! (Still reading it). Everyday, I rush back to this book. I wait impatiently till I can get back to it.

How a man should live, think. I guess in the original Mahabharata, these intricacies of Karna's mind are not given. But Shivaji Savant brings Karna's c...

Fair

The way the book is written, is so beautiful that it makes me feel like a spectator who is witnessing Karna's life.
The writing deserves 5 stars!
The reason for 3 is because of the book condition.
It was loosely binded and first few pages was torn.
The printing was bad. I expected a better condition for the price I paid.
But this is a masterpiece on Karna!!!

Five Stars

"Karna, the Foremost of All Heroes.."
Karna is my forever love ❤ I always wanna know more & more about him. "Mrityunjaya", as I started reading, I feel an unworldly chill through my veins! The author has woven it so beautifully that the reader can really visualise and hear the Real Karna, the Foremost of Warriors, but a Tragic Hero. His emotions, struggles and conflicts will make "two drops of tears form in eyes" for surely.
A highly recommended one for All Karna Lovers & Also for Karna Hater...

Mrithyunjaya - The Death Conqueror

It does not feel very well written but I am certain that the original in Marathi must be fantastic. Either ways, the story of Karna unfolds and treads into many areas that have always been a mystery to me. The character becomes more accessible and all the other perspectives are also contributing to reveal the hidden layers. A better insight into the epic story through the eyes of its characters working within their circumstances. A definite must read.

A great read

If you are into mythology, this book would certainly interest you. The book is a psychological insight into various characters of Mahabharat, primarily Karna who is confused about his identity almost his entire life.

The metaphors in the book are very apt and the conversations between different characters are thought-provoking. A lot of literary merit seems to have been lost in translation, it is nonetheless a great read in English. The translated version has the typical language of Sanskri...
