This is a great card and read up review elsewhere and here also to get this. I am one of the last buyers and I am completely satisfied with this product.
Basically "MSI / ZOTAC / Saphire / XFX" are all names associated with a basic architecture from AMD. So they are all the same or almost the same. Its just the hardware specs. that differ and one has to be careful.
As regards to scepticism over AMD, I would say they have gone way ahead thanks to ATi acquisition.
Overall I am happy with the product so far. It runs cool and does not get very hot even while playing games. My purpose was to extend the life of my PC and have an old motherboard with PCI 1.1. I had no issues in running this card which is ideally made for PCI 3.

Generally speaking, the higher the resolution, the more memory needed by the graphics. Now RAM speed does influence the gaming speed. I think, @ 1920x1080, I would rather have 1 GB of faster(DDR5) ram than 2 GB of slower(DDR3) ram.
