Niharika Chatterjee, is the wife of the famous Public Prosecutor Arindam Chaterjee. Niharika's marriage is in shambles. Though a talented dancer she cannot escape from the prison that her marriage has now become! Arindam Chatterjee, the famous public prosecutor is a pompous and domineering husband. At a party, Niharika comes across the new I.G of Correctional Cells of West Bengal who had a few interesting ideas up his sleeves, to try & reform convicts. Aware of Niharika's talent and educational background, he approaches Niharika to stage Rabindra Nath Tagore's "Balmiki Pratibha" involving inmates of correctional cells. Niharika is intriqued by the idea, but can she defy her abusive husband and fulfill the expectation of the I. G.? Niharika decides to give it a try Her main adversary in prison is Yusuf Mohammad, convicted for man slaughter, Yusuf had a striking personality and was smart, suave, and self-assured. Will Niharika be successful in staging the play? Will Yusuf co-operate with her? Though, initially, Yusuf seems to co-operate with Niharika & agrees to play the main role of dacoit Ratnakar his mischievous brain was planning an escape from prison. Does Yusuf successfully escape the prison walls? Is his transformation complete? Does he free Niharika from her self inflicted prison? Does he free himself of the torments that crowd his soul? Does Dacoit Ratnakar truly transform into sage Valmiki? Does he redeem Niharika's honor or does he let her down? Does he vindicate the trust placed on him by his superiors?
