Description

Beware the office ghost – or the seemingly boring husband who might just find a most macabre way of doing something different...

Twelve spine-chilling stories from a writer whose sleight of hand with black humour is hard to match. In A Brief Lesson in Trust, Geeti learns the hard way that the most reliable girl in school is not always what she seems; in St. George and the Dragon, Mr George, the archetypal government clerk finds a fiendishly clever way to outstmart his corrupt boss while The Howling Waves of Tranquebar takes us to this tiny Danish settlement of yore where an innocuous-looking beer mug still has strange powers of destruction. These and other stories in this collection entertain, amuse – but always end with a twist in the tale that leaves a few goosebumps.

An interesting read

This collection of short stories makes for quite an interesting read. I found the stories to be genuine, intelligent, written in a style which is both lucid and slick. The stories have an interesting and unpredictable twist towards the end, which kept me hooked on throughout. Other than the story “My Lawfully Wedded Husband”, I quite liked other stories such as "A Brief Lesson in Trust", "St. George and the Dragon", "The Howling Waves of Tranquebar" and "House number 63".

My 11-year old nep...

A definite page turner

I love short stories. And I love the ones which leave an impact, more. Madhulika Liddle's My Lawfully Wedded Husband and Other Stories, was one book which I loved more. Twelve stories, twelve flavours - but all garnished with some amount of dark humour.

Liddle's characters are bold, colourful and stands out among the crowd. Be it the office ghost in Silent Fear, the inquisitive and concerned young couple neighbours to Number 63, the artfully crafty government clerk Mr.George in St.George and...

Simply Whacky and Awesome!

This book is not for the prim and proper people. The stories are steeped in black humour and the twists hit like punches. Every story is a treat in itself. The characters can be found all around you. Relations come alive in different context. Loved the book!

Oh, this too is Liddle?

Humourous and a break from Liddle's own style of writing which one comes across in all of her Muzaffer Jang stories, My lawfully Wedded Husband is indeed, another style altogether. The lady is prolific and the stories fun, true to life. yes, you may meet a Liddle in your life too, if you read those stories - they are so real!
