These stockings are sheer type so they're not completely opaque but you can't see the colour of the skin underneath either. For my 8yr old I picked up the size for 12-13 yr olds. This way the stocking is loose enough that it'll not tear in usage. The material is not very thin like in women's stockings, but not thick like in woolen stockings either. Good buy and my daughter loves wearing them because it's so comfortable.
