Description
Germination time: 15-39 days For germination temperature: 15-20 Celsius. Instructions 1.Pack moist soil in a seed tray. Press the columbine seeds lightly to the top of the soil. Place the seed tray in a refrigerator to start the stratification process, subjecting the seeds to a moist/cold treatment to wake them from dormancy. Refrigerate the seeds for three weeks or until they germinate (approximately 25 days). Stratification also can be done in the garden area by planting the seeds in late fall or early spring when it is still cold at night. This will let a stratification process happen naturally. 2.Prepare the garden area where you will be planting the germinated columbine seeds. Weed the area and water the soil so it is moist when you spread the seeds. Loosen the soil with a rake and begin planting the columbine seeds by sprinkling the seeds over the soil. Cover the seeds lightly with soil. 3. Water the soil to keep it moist. Make sure that the area you planted the columbine seeds is in full sunlight, or in partial sunlight if it is in a warmer zone and the soil is well-drained. 4..Thin the seedlings out when they emerge from the soil. Seedlings will need to be spaced about 12 to 18 inches apart to give the roots space to grow. Water to retain the soil's moistness. Add an inch or two of mulch on top of the soil around the seedlings to keep the moisture in the soil.
